Dysprosium Sputtering Target Description

DysprosiumThe dysprosium sputtering target is a silvery metallic target composed of high purity dysprosium metal. Dysprosium is a chemical element that originated from the Greek ‘dysprositos’, meaning hard to get. It was first mentioned in 1886 and observed by P.E.L. de Boisbaudran. “Dy” is the canonical chemical symbol of dysprosium. Its atomic number in the periodic table of elements is 66 with a location at Period 6 and Group 3, belonging to the f-block. The relative atomic mass of dysprosium is 162.500(1) Dalton, the number in the brackets indicating the uncertainty.

Dysprosium Sputtering Target Application

  • Dysprosium sputtering target is used for thin film deposition.
  • Stainless steels alloyed with dysprosium are used in nuclear control applications.
  • Dysprosium is used as a cermet that cools nuclear reactor control rods, whereby it readily absorbs neutrons without contracting or swelling under prolonged neutron bombardment.
  • Dysprosium is used as a laser material by combining it with rare-earth metals, including vanadium.
  • Dysprosium-cadmium chalcogenides are a source of infrared radiation.

Handling Notes

1. No bonding service is presently available for dysprosium sputtering targets. 2. Dysprosium sputtering target has high chemical activity when exposed to the environment. Oil packaging and clean procedure are required to prevent it from chemical reactions.

These are huge! My mistake, I didn't realize how large these were when I ordered them. I haven't figured out what I'll be using these for but I'm sure these will not go to waste! So MAKE SURE you have ordered the right size!
